About this course

Most money advice young Africans read was written for someone earning a stable salary in a stable currency, which is why so little of it works. This course teaches the real machinery: how to budget on an income that changes month to month, how debt and interest actually compound, why inflation and a falling naira or cedi quietly take money from savers, and what the instruments people around you talk about — treasury bills, savings bonds, mutual funds, stocks, dollar investments, crypto — genuinely are and what each one can cost you. It takes savings groups seriously (ajo, esusu, tontine) instead of pretending everyone has a brokerage account, covers insurance and tax honestly, and reads a balance sheet so you can judge a business, including your own. A long section is spent on fraud, because Ponzi schemes have taken more money from young Nigerians than any market crash: what they look like, the exact phrases they use, and why the ones that pay out at first are the most dangerous. Ends with how payments really work — transfers, cards, Apple and Google Pay, mobile money, crypto — so you can take money safely for your own work. About 4¾ hours of video.
