Privacy
TTA Africa Limited ("TTA Africa", "we") runs ttaafrica.com, a free learning platform for young people. This page explains, in plain words, what information we collect, why, and your choices. We follow the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
What we collect
When you create an account: your name, username or email (through our sign-in provider, Clerk), and optionally a phone number.
When you tell us about yourself: your stage (for example primary or secondary school), age range, gender, interests, country, state or city, school, how you found TTA and where you met us. Everything except name, stage, age range, gender and interests is optional.
While you learn: the courses you join, lessons you finish, quiz scores, practical tasks you submit and certificates you earn.
Automatically: the general area you are in (country, region and city — worked out from your connection, we do not store your IP address), the kind of device you use (for example "Android phone"), and which days you visit (to count your streak and celebrate milestones like your 10th day of learning).
If you turn on reminders: a technical address your browser gives us so we can send notifications to your phone or computer. It does not contain your name or number. Turning reminders off, or blocking notifications in your browser, deletes it.
If you send us feedback: your rating, the options you tick and anything you write. If you tick that the TTA team may contact you, we may call or message the phone number on your account (a parent or guardian's number for younger learners) to hear more.
When something breaks: a technical description of the error and the page it happened on, so we can fix it. It does not include your name or details.
Why we collect it
- To recommend the right courses and remember where you stopped
- To review your practical tasks and issue certificates
- To understand who we are reaching and report our impact to schools, partners and sponsors — always as totals, never naming individual children
- To tell you about new courses, scholarships and outreaches if you gave us a phone number
- To send reminders, at most one a day, only if you turned them on
- To learn what helps and what gets in the way, from your feedback, and improve TTA
- To keep the site working and safe
What we never do
- We never sell your information.
- We never show your details publicly. Only your name and course appear on a certificate, and only if you share its link.
- Only TTA Africa staff and trusted volunteer mentors can see learner information, and mentors only see what they need to review tasks.
Children
Many of our learners are under 18. We collect as little as we can: younger learners give a parent or guardian's phone number instead of their own, and when we call a guardian's number we speak to the parent or guardian first. Other learners only ever see a first name and initial in comments, and certificates are hidden from search engines. Parents and guardians can ask us to see, correct or delete their child's information at any time.
How long we keep it
We keep your account while you use TTA. Error reports are deleted 30 days after they are fixed. If you ask us to delete your account, we remove your personal details within 30 days, including your certificates (tell us if you would like your certificates to stay verifiable).
Videos from other websites
Lessons play videos from YouTube in privacy-enhanced mode. YouTube's own privacy policy applies to those videos.
Your choices
You can update your interests and details at any time from your dashboard, and turn reminders on or off there. To see, correct or delete your information, email [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days.
