What you'll learn

  • Explain how data moves through networks using the OSI and TCP/IP models
  • Subnet IPv4 networks quickly and plan addressing with VLSM
  • Configure switches: VLANs, trunks, spanning tree and EtherChannel
  • Configure static routing and OSPF, and troubleshoot routing problems
  • Work with IPv6, ACLs, DHCP, DNS, NAT, NTP, SSH and QoS
  • Secure switches against common attacks (port security, DHCP snooping, ARP inspection)
  • Describe LAN, WAN, wireless, cloud and software-defined architectures
  • Use APIs, JSON and automation tools like Ansible — and prepare for the CCNA exam

About this course

Every bank, telecom, hospital, school and government in Africa runs on networks — and network engineers are among the most employable people in tech. This course follows Jeremy's IT Lab's complete, free CCNA 200-301 course, one of the most respected networking courses in the world, organised into eleven parts with quizzes after each. You'll learn how networks really work and build them yourself in Cisco Packet Tracer (free): addressing and subnetting, switching and VLANs, spanning tree, static and dynamic routing with OSPF, IPv6, access control lists, DHCP, DNS, NAT, QoS, switch security, wireless, LAN/WAN and cloud architectures, and the network automation skills employers now expect. Theory lessons are required; the labs are optional but strongly recommended — they are where the skills stick. Finish with a full network design project, ready for the Cisco CCNA exam. About 40 hours of video plus labs: 3–5 months at an hour a day.
